What we consulted on

The Herefordshire Local Plan - Core Strategy was adopted in October 2015. This sets out the overall vision, objectives and spatial strategy for the county.

The Hereford Area Plan (HAP) will set out the detailed proposals to ensure the full delivery of the city specific policies in the Core Strategy. The preparation of the HAP provides an opportunity to shape the planning framework that will deliver and manage projects in Hereford and ensure they meet the needs and aspirations of local communities, while also protecting and enhancing the built and natural environment.

The Hereford Transport Package (HTP) is a key project included in the Local Transport Plan. The package will help us deliver transport conditions to support a healthy and prosperous city by:

  • Enabling new jobs and homes
  • Supporting the economy of the city centre
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Reducing pollution

The HTP comprises two main elements:

The Hereford bypass

The Hereford bypass is a proposed new road to the west of the city. The exact route has not been determined but would include a new river crossing. The bypass would support the delivery of 6,500 homes and 6,000 jobs, a new university and expansion of the Hereford Enterprise Zone at Rotherwas.

Walking, cycling and bus improvements

These include improvements in Hereford to increase walking, cycling and bus use for short distance journeys and more attractive and healthier public spaces.

Publication of results

The responses received from this consultation along with further evidence gathered will help formulate the next stage in the preparation of both projects. Following this consultation further individual consultations will take place as each project progresses.
