Monday 13 June to Friday 29 July 2022. This consultation is closed.
Herefordshire Council is preparing a Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA). The purpose is to identify and assess land that has potential to deliver housing, or where appropriate employment-based development in the local plan period. This will provide important fresh evidence of land availability in the county to underpin the Local Plan 2021-2041.
The intention is to:
- Undertake a county-wide review of older SHLAA site assessments
- Seek any additional land that may have become available
To gather the necessary information, we undertook a call for sites exercise county-wide, for both existing assessed sites and newly available sites previously in 2020, and now in 2022.
We invited landowners, agents or developers wishing to promote land for development to:
- Fill in the call for sites form to the best of their knowledge
- Submit a separate call for sites form with a location plan with the boundaries of the site clearly marked out in red for each site
We are looking for sites which are within or close to an existing settlement, and of an area of at least 0.25 hectares.
The closing date for submissions was Friday 29 July 2022.
The information collected will be assessed as part of the preparation of the Local Plan to identify and assess land that has potential to deliver housing, or where appropriate employment-based development, in the local plan period.

Gypsy and Travellers' call for sites
A revised Gypsy and Travellers Accommodation Assessment (GTAA) has been prepared. This tells us that we need to identify more residential traveller pitches and travelling show people plots for development. We are keen to hear about any sites that may be suitable for consideration. Please complete the Gypsy and Travellers' call for sites form to send in details about any sites.
Please contact a member of the planning policy team by telephone on 01432 383637 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for any advice and help on this issue.
We will look carefully at all sites put forward to see if they are suitable. Not all the sites sent in will necessarily be selected.
