Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment – Call for Sites 2020

Herefordshire Council is preparing a Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA). The purpose is to identify and assess land that has potential to deliver housing, or where appropriate employment-based development in the local plan period. This will provide important fresh evidence of land availability in the county to underpin the Core Strategy, which is currently undergoing review.

The intention is to:

  • Undertake a county-wide review of all existing assessed sites and
  • Seek any additional land that may have become available

To gather the necessary information, we undertook a call for sites exercise county-wide, for both existing assessed sites and newly available sites.

Landowners, agents or developers wishing to promote land for development were invited to:

  • Fill in the call for sites form to the best of their knowledge
  • Submit a separate call for sites form with a location plan with the boundaries of the site clearly marked out in red for each site

We are looking for sites which are within or close to an existing settlement, and of an area of at least 0.25 hectares.

The council called for submissions for a 6 week period from Monday 3 August to Monday 14 September 2020.

Next steps

The information collected will be assessed as part of the review of the Core Strategy to identify and assess land that has potential to deliver housing, or where appropriate employment-based development, in the local plan period.
