24 October to 5 December 2018. This consultation is now closed. Responses available.
What happens next?
The consultation closed on the 5 December 2018. The council has sent all the responses received, together with its response, to the Planning Inspector. The Inspector has invited those who made representations on the Additional Sites Consultation Document to a hearing session on the 18 March 2019 at the Three Counties Hotel, Belmont, Hereford. The details of the hearing session will be confirmed in early March and will be updated on the Travellers' Sites Document examination page. Further consultation will take place on the main modifications which will include any additional pitches and other changes recommended by the Inspector.
Background to the consultation
The council is producing a Travellers' Sites Document as part of its Local Plan. This will focus on the accommodation needs of the Traveller community (Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Show People) up to 2031.
We completed a preferred options consultation in 2016 to identify potential sites and a pre-submission draft document consultation before the Travellers' Sites Development Plan Document was submitted to the Secretary of State for Housing Communities and Local Government for examination.
The post hearing advice from the Inspector required the council to review the sections of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment in relation to turnover of pitches on the local authority sites.
In response to the post hearing advice from the Inspector, the council identified two additional sites that could help meet the shortfall of pitches up to 2022/23. View information about the requirement for additional sites in the August 2018 update from the Inspector.
The sites are located at:
- Oakfield, Nash End Lane, near Bosbury (for up to 4 pitches)
- Land at Stoney Street, near Madley (for up to 10 pitches)
View the Travellers' Sites Document - additional sites consultation document for plans and details of the sites.
These two sites have been the subject of Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA).
