schools admissions policies

We asked for your views on proposals to change the Herefordshire Council schools admission policies relating to children adopted from care outside of England.

Each school has a set number of places at the beginning of the school year. If too many people apply for a place, the school admission policies set out how schools decide who will get a place.

We asked for your feedback on proposals to make changes to the over subscription policies relating to the admission of children adopted from care outside of England, to meet the guidelines recommended by the Minister of State for School Standards.

The changes would see the council give priority to children who have previously been in state care outside of England, and have ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

If agreed the proposed changes to Priority 1 and 2 of the policies would be implemented as follows:

  • Priority 1 - Looked after children and children who were looked after in England, but ceased to be due to being adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order
  • Priority 2 - Looked after children and children who were looked after outside of England, but ceased to be due to being adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order

The deadline for feedback was 5pm on Thursday 27 December 2018.

If agreed, the proposed changes will be implemented in the admissions round that opens in September 2019 affecting school admissions for September 2020.
