How would you set the council's budget?
Tuesday 19 November to Friday 20 December 2024. This consultation is closed.

We asked for your views on how Herefordshire Council's budget should be prioritised in 2025/26.

We asked you to try to set a balanced budget for next year using our online interactive budget simulator tool which showed the impact of changes in income and expenditure on the delivery of services.

We also asked for your feedback on areas of potential investment across the county and the options on Council Tax increases.

We wanted to hear from anyone who lived or worked in Herefordshire and was over 16 years old, regardless of whether or not they paid Council Tax.

The closing date for the consultation was 3pm on Friday 20 December 2024.

Budget themes

Our priorities for the 2025/26 budget are to:

  • Continue the 100% discount on Council Tax for people most in need (this measure seeks to support residents in the community struggling to pay their Council Tax charge)
  • Continue to invest in improvements to the road network
  • Invest in measures to improve road safety and reduce road casualties across the council
  • Invest in playgrounds and spaces for play to encourage active lifestyles for children and young people
  • Invest in a prevention and maintenance programme to strengthen resilience and reduce/mitigate the impact of flooding for residents and communities
  • Invest in the development of cultural and community space in the city centre
  • Maximise use of the council's assets and resources to reduce revenue pressures
